The Chinese Juniper “Greenmound” Bonsai is a Hearty Outdoor Plant

There are many different types of outdoor bonsai available. Many are Juniper bonsai, which are very hearty and versatile bonsai that make great gifts. In fact, the Chinese Juniper Greenmound bonsai is a great housewarming or wedding gift for both those who collect bonsai and those who simply love classic, beautiful plants. The Chinese Juniper grows outdoors year round. In fact, as far as bonsai go, the Chinese Juniper is one that always needs to be outdoors. If you bring it inside, it will actually do worse than it if were outdoors during the cold winter.

The Juniper bonsai family is the common group of bonsai like the Chinese Juniper Greenmound that are hardy conifers. They do not produce any flowers, but they are very easy to prune and train. Because of this, the Juniper is one of the bonsai that is often cultivated by beginners. Note that Junipers do have pretty prickly needles, so you’ll want to wear a pair of thick gloves when you shape them. These needles can actually cause an itchy, red rash in some people, so you should be careful when performing maintenance on your Juniper. You should do your pruning in the spring or the fall, not the summer.
